| 2. Why
do I get the message “Disconnected
due to a network error” each time
I try to publish my Website?
Before publishing your site with ThunderSite,
make sure that all the connection parameters
are correct (i.e. login, password, etc.)
and that no other FTP tools have opened
a session on your site. First, try closing
all the FTP connections. Also try disabling
your firewall and than republish your Website.
Our technical team has noticed that firewalls
such as Norton Personal Firewall can prevent
ThunderSite from accessing the Internet.
3. How
can I publish a Website with ThunderSite?
- Go to Publish>Publish/update
your site on the main menu. Press the
‘New…’ button.
- Fill in the Publishing Configuration
dialog box. You have two options: either
you can choose to host your site locally,
which is easy to configure because all
you need to do is provide the path of
the folder on your Hard Drive where you
would like to publish your Website too
(see image below),
or you can decide to publish your site
on the Internet, in which case you should:
-
Choose a Web Host,
- Get a login and password from your Web
Host for your site,
- Fill in the Configuration fields (see
image below).
After having finished the
configuration, press the OK button in
order to start publishing your site.
4. My Web Host requires an index page.
What should I do?
Web Hosts require the presence
of an html file generally named index.htm,
home.htm or default.htm
(or index.html, home.html
and default.html) in
the root folder of your site. ThunderSite
creates this file automatically and names
it by default index.htm. Thus, you only
need to enter the name of the file required
by your Web Host in the ‘Home Page’
field in the Publishing Configuration
window (see image below).
5. Can I modify pages made with ThunderSite
with another software once it has been
published?
To modify pages made with
ThunderSite, you need to use an FTP tool
(FTP Expert for example) to download the
pages and upload them back after modifying
them with your editor. Take note, you
will not be able to modify your site with
ThunderSite anymore after having used
another editor.
6. With Thundersite, can I use forms
in my pages?
Yes, you can use forms in
your Website since the second version
ThunderSite. There are even Form Wizards
to help you make your forms. These Wizards
also automatically put javascript scripts
to verify that the mandatory fields are
filled in.
7. I’ve noticed that the background
image of a table is not displayed correctly
with certain navigators (i.e. Mozilla
Firefox) but is with IE?
Certain JPEG image format
codes are not accepted by Mozilla Firefox
or other navigators. For further information,
contact the software publisher's technical
support.
8.
Do the « ThunderSite » logos
still appear on the banner and in the
background if I have the Full Version
of ThunderSite?
No, the Full Version of
ThunderSite offers 160 logo-free Website
Templates and gives you the option to
insert your own logos. The Trial Version
only offers 3 Website Templates that have
the ThunderSite logo.
9. I’ve
built my site using your Software. Can
you host this page for free?
Website Hosting is not our
specialization. You may find a list of
free hosts here.
10. What is the difference between
the Free and the Full Version of ThunderSite?
The difference between the Free and the
Full Version is the number of available
Website Templates (3 in the Trial Version
instead of 160 in the Full Version). Also,
there will be no ThunderSite logos on Websites
built with the Full Version of ThunderSite.
11. I managed
to publish my Website with my computer.
Then I tried to publish it with another
computer but received the message «
disconnection due to an error on the network
». Why?
You should import the publishing configuration
from your first computer.
To do so, go to Publishing>Publishing
Configuration in the main menu.
Choose the Publishing Configuration within
the list and use the Import / Export
buttons.
For example, you can export the Publishing
Configuration from your first computer onto
a floppy disk and then import it onto you
second computer by clicking on the Import
button (see image below).
Finally, you can use the correct Publishing
Configuration to publish your site from
the second computer.
Tip: An added empty space
in the name of your login or password can
block your connection.
12. What is
the difference between Thundersite and ThunderSite
Pro?
The standard version of ThunderSite allows
you to build static sites (HTML pages) and
is conceived for the average user or users
who do not wish to add databases to their
site. If you wish to build more complex
sites, with databases, and you have programming
language knowledge such as PHP, you should
use ThunderSite Pro in order to benefit
from the features and easiness of ThunderSite
while creating dynamic sites (with *.php,
*.asp, *.aspx etc. extensions).
13. Why is
my site in 800x600 whereas some of your
sample sites are in 1024x768 ?
The Website Templates offered with the
Trial Version of ThunderSite have been optimized
for display in 800x600, but a large choice
of Website Templates with variable display
sizes (800x600 or 1024x768) are downloadable
at http://www.generalia-software.com/thundersite/en/catalog.php
14. Can I
open a Website that I have built with the
Trial Version of ThunderSite using the Full
Version of ThunderSite?
Yes, you can open your personal Website
built with the Trial Version using the Full
Version of ThunderSite, only the Website
Template will be different.
If you open your Website on a computer
where the Website Template of your Website
has not been installed or where the Version
of ThunderSite does not contain this Template,
the following message will appear:
In this case you only need to press the
‘Yes’ button in the message
window and then choose a Website Template
from the available list.
15. Why can’t
I change the background color of the Website
Templates?
To change the background color of your
Website, you need to go to Site
> Website properties…then
press the Customize… Button (see below).
Finally, choose the color in Website Template
Properties > General:
.
16. I’d
like to know if I have to publish my whole
Website again every time I make a change?
No. ThunderSite offers multiple publishing
choices for your Website.
You should choose the Update
option (see below) to update only the modified
parts of your Website.
17. What should
I do if I cannot publish my site with ThunderSite?
Our Technical Support team has noticed
that certain firewalls (for example, Norton
Personal Firewall) may prevent ThunderSite
from accessing the Internet. Please deactivate
your firewall and try again. You can turn
your firewall back on after publication.
Otherwise, you should publish your site
locally and then use an FTP client (for
example, FTP2000, FileZilla, etc.) to publish
your site on the Internet.
Here are 3 downloadable FTP clients:
Click
here for an example of how to use
FTP clients.
18. Can I
purchase ThunderSite with something other
than a credit card?
No.
19. How can
I add meta tags to my site?
To learn how to add meta tags click
here.
Otherwise, you can use an external editor
to add meta tags to your pages by going
to Page > Modify with an External
Editor... (Ctrl +E). We recommend
that you use an editor such as Microsoft
NotePad.
20. I can’t
publish my Website since I have Windows
XP Service Pack 2 installed?
Updating (Windows XP Service Pack 2) automatically
installs a firewall on your PC. Deactivating
this firewall will allow you to publish
your site. You can turn your firewall back
on after publication.

21. Can I
place a picture anywhere I want in a page?
Yes. ThunderSite allows you to place pictures
where you choose on the page. To do so you
should right-click on the picture, check
the appropriate box and enter the image
coordinates (Top and Left) in the Image
Properties window (see image below).

22. In the
marquee, the text scrolls too fast. How
can I configure its speed?
When you double click on the scroll text,
a window will appear allowing you to change
the scroll delay (see below). The smaller
the number, the faster it will go.

23. I can’t
register with the ThunderSite site. Why?
If you use AOL navigator,
you might encounter compatibility problems
with many Internet features. To bypass these
problems you should install Internet Explorer
in addition to AOL navigator. Internet Explorer
will allow you to get connected without
loosing your AOL connection. To download

to 4 Mb in size.
Tip: If your website includes
large audio or video files, try encoding
them at a lower quality to reduce their
filesize. |
